You will arrive at the beautiful outdoor garden setting of the Montebello Design Centre in Newlands.
The marimbas will be set up under the trees surrounded by small curio shops and a shaded playground for the kids. If it rains, we will move the activity indoors to take place in our music studio.
We will start off with a 5-minute introduction of the different types of marimbas and their unique qualities.
Guests will then choose which marimba they would like to play: soprano, alto, tenor or bass marimba.
For larger groups, we will provide more than one facilitator. We will then teach you how to play a well-known or traditional song.
Half-way through the session, we will have a 10-minute snack/water break. During this time, we will sit together and I’ll share the history of marimbas and other traditional African instruments with you and you may ask any questions you may have about the instrument and its journey through Africa.
We will then finish learning the rest of the song and I will record a video of you / your group playing the song from start to end. You will leave feeling energized and with a great sense of accomplishment at your natural abilities to play a traditional African instrument.
