Hunting Horn meets Marimba Tour

March 4, 2018 @ 10:00 am - March 13, 2018 @ 2:00 pm UTC+0

Les Échos des Femmes – a woman ensemble from Germany playing natural horns (with a French name because most of the music repertoire is French hunting music) – travelled to Cape Town in March 2018 to perform in a series of FREE lunchtime concerts at various venues around the Mother City in March. Venues include the Hugo Lambrechts Music Center, the German International School, the Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Baxter Concert Hall.
In a unique collaboration with local women musicians, the horns met marimbas when they played together with Marimba Jam as well as students from their Rising Stars Program. The idea was to build bridges and deepen the understanding between the women and musicians of two continents.

Key local musical collaborators for the concert tour were:
● Marimba Jam – a vibrant, female-driven company that both performs and teaches Marimbas in Cape Town
● Marimba Jam Rising Stars students from The Chris Hani Arts and Culture School in Khayelitsha
● Doctor Sylvia Bruinders (Head of Ethnomusicology and African Music at the SA College of Music, UCT) who will be moderating the concert at the Baxter concert hall.
● Daniela Heuer, Les Échos des Femmes‘ musical director.

We assisted in all sorts of communication, press material, posters, managing the Website , social media and producing videos and photography to create awareness of the project and attract audiences to the various concerts. It was a great success and we hope to run a similar series in Germany in the future.
