PRIVATE LESSONS

ABOUT THE PRIVATE LESSON PROGRAM
Our Private Lesson Program caters for individuals, pairs and groups of marimba enthusiasts of all ages!
Each one of our teachers is trained in the South African Marimba and has graduated from our MARIMBA JAM Teacher’s Training course.
True to the ancient art of African xylophones and marimbas, students are not expected to read music or to have played another musical instrument before. The focus of these lessons is to provide a space for creative expression and exploration. Students can rely on their ear and muscle memory as they learn songs, grooves and other marimba techniques.
Each individual/group receives one lesson per week at Montebello Design Centre in Newlands, Cape Town.
For students who are interested in delving deeper into a more academic study of the instrument/ would like to enter external level exams- check out our Syllabus Page.

“We believe that music has the power to unlock the potential within every child, as well as serve as a tool for healing and nation-building. Not only is playing the marimba a physical activity; Marimba Jam ensures the psychological benefits are also honed, such as creating a safe-space and feeling part of a bigger community. Our aim is to create an environment in which everyone feels equal, accepted and unified. We use marimba as a means to harness more empathy among the youth to ensure our students are well-rounded and ready to face the world.”
